Why do I love WordPress? This is one of the main reasons!
WordPress came up with a URL shortener called WP.me. If you type this into your browser, you will be taken to the WordPress.com home page. HUh? Yeah, no info on the shortener or anything. Thanks to blogger Abhik for providing some insight into how to use this lovely URL shortener!
Twitter has become more important to my online presence as of late. Getting tired of the types of interactions I suppose. I love my close friends, don’t get me wrong. Twitter tends to distribute more real time real information as opposed to FB is more of an account of things my friends have already done. Sure, some people do post events real time on FB, I suggest you try Twitter for a few days, and get back to me. I am not bashing FB or saying I no longer spend time there, I am saying that my time on FB has been reduced in direct proportion to the amount of time I spend on Twitter.
At any rate. In the Twitter world, one attracts followers who are interested in the types of things you share. Attracting followers who share your interests can lead to valuable social interactions.
One of the ways that people will share information on Twitter is by posting links to interesting content. If you would like to share your blog post for example..(what this post is about).. one would paste the link into whatever platform one tweets from, the link would be automatically shortened, and then tweet! The tweet appears with a link to your content. Easy right? Sure.
But, what if your link now included a preview of the blog post along with the main graphic in the post, on Twitter?
That’s right, rich content in your tweet..now that ‘s sweet! Thanks to the URL shortener, WP.me provided FREE, yup, fREE, as long as you have a valid API key (obtained from your also free wordpress.com account).
Download Stats Plugin for Your Hosted WordPress Blog
Download the Stats plugin directly from WordPress.com and once the Plugin is installed, you will edit the options and select to use WP.me as the Shortlink. Whenever you create a post, there is a button under the title “Get Shortlink”. Use this button to reveal your Wp.me url. That easy. Why go through all that trouble? I can tell you from personal experience, that I am more likely to read a blog I can get a preview of. This is especially true for Twitter where you would be bombarded with a blend of shortlinks that you would have to actually test to see if the content even related to what the post was actually about. http://wp.me/p2alTz-4F
Hope this helps some one, happy blogging!
