It has been my experience that website design does not hinder sales when the product and price is right. However, as I have stated before, it is my experience that as the appeal of the design increases, so do the sales and return customers.
Simple PayPal solutions as well as complicated Database driven solutions integrated to real time inventory can all be accomplished right here. I have my own e-commerce websites, running on my own code, that sell physical and digital goods. I also have experience building a "penny auction" website that is run on a timer synchronized to the server, and server time zone, for a "real time" auction experience.
Custom Solutions
We provide a custom shopping cart/checkout / CMS system that has been tried and proven in the real world. Our carts have been able to pass tests from several online credit card processing companies. Our shopping carts use a database driven system that is secure. The advantage of using our custom solution is that you can decide on which features you need to implement and the ones you don't. We have experience using PayPal, Google Checkout, as well as independent merchant accounts to process online transactions.
Open Source
There are many "free" or Open Source E-Commerce solutions that are available. The reason why we promote our own shopping cart solution is because we ultimately have complete control over the coding and security of the application. Open Source solutions are great, but they are not for everyone. The commitment that you make when using an open source solution, is that you are now committed to installing any security updates in a timely fashion, once the Open Source developers release the update. Hopefully hackers won't find security holes before you get to the update. That being said, we are more than capable of designing a custom template for many of the Open Source E-Commerce Solutions available like; OS Commerce, Zen Cart, and others.
